The Meadow

Welcome to the meadow!

Meadows are open fields full of grass, flowers, and shrubs. These environments provide a safe place for animals to graze, make nests, and sleep! Pollinators often live in fields where flowers are abundant, and many small animals live here all their lives!

Meadows are ideal habitats for wild animals to graze, but that also makes them attractive for farmers! To manage the needs of both our agriculture and wildlife, most biologists, horticulturalists, and ecologists work for organizations like the The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife, and the USDA Forest Service also help with managing wild meadows and grasslands, and work to keep healthy populations of prey species. They often work closely with local state governments and tribal organizations to manage the needs of their specific environments.
